Care in Greater Phoenix
In Favorable Microclimates (with lower heat exposure)
Examples: minimal reflected heat, fewer rocks, surrounding plants, some afternoon protection
- Sun: Full sun
- Water: Deeply water to establish; once established, water regularly when the soil dries down
In Hot/Exposed Landscapes (with reflected heat from walls and/or rockscapes)
Examples: near block walls, rock mulch, south/west exposure, sparse plantings
- Sun: Morning sun with afternoon shade is recommended to reduce stress and improve flowering
- Water: Deeply water to establish; once established, water more frequently as soil dries down—consistent watering is essential in high-heat conditions
Soil: Excellent drainage is key (raised beds/containers help in clay soils)
Prune: Light shaping after bloom to keep plants tidy and encourage rebloom
