Wondering What You Should Be Doing In Your Garden?
Below is a calendar of key things you can be doing in your garden during the month of May.
Early May
- Fertilize lawns
- Clean the birdbath thoroughly. Depending on how many birds enjoy your birdbath, you should be cleaning it 2-3 times per week.
Mid-May
- Plant summer flowers: Salvia, Zinnias, Sunflowers
- Watch for Aphids and other pests
- Happy Mother's Day! - May 12
- Fertilize indoor plants
- For safety precautions and before it’s too warm, prune back branches of trees that hang over structures.
Late May
- Plant late summer edibles: pumpkins, winter squash, carrots, beets
- Fertilize veggies
- Deadhead Azaleas, Rhodies, Camellias, and fertilize them
- Check irrigation to insure it is working for summer heat
- Treat Grubs now to keep them from getting out of control in the fall
- Watch for powdery mildew due to warm days and cool nights
