Below is a calendar of key things you can be doing in your garden during the month of May.

Approximate Dates & Gardening Activities:
May 1 - Fertilize lawns
May 4 - Clean the birdbath thoroughly. Depending on how many birds enjoy your birdbath, you should be cleaning it 2-3 times per week.
May 11 - Plant summer flowers: Salvia, Zinnias, Sunflowers
May 12 - Watch for Aphids and other pests
May 14 - Mother's Day
May 15 - Fertilize indoor plants
May 18 – For safety precautions and before it’s too warm, prune back branches of trees that hang over structures.
May 20 - Plant late summer edibles: pumpkins, winter squash, carrots, beets
May 21 - Fertilize veggies
May 22 - Dead Head Azaleas, Rhodies, Camellias, and fertilize them
May 25 - Check irrigation to insure it is working for summer heat
May 27 - Treat Grubs now to keep them from getting out of control in the fall
May 28 - Watch for powdery mildew due to warm days and cool nights
May 30 – Memorial Day
