Did you know that every December the tint and hue experts at Pantone announce an official color of the year for the coming months? This color can influence trends in everything from wardrobe designers and home décor sets to graphic design and marketing campaigns. The Pantone color of the year for 2019 is Living Coral.

Pantone color of the year, Living Coral (PANTONE 16-1546), sounds like something you would be more likely to find under the sea than in your backyard, but it turns out there are plenty of plants and flowers that fit the bill perfectly.
Here are six recommended additions featuring Living Coral, Pantone color of the year 2019, that will grow happily in the yards of Bay Area homes.
- Tropicana Hybrid Tea Rose
This hybrid tea rose features a fruity fragrance and gorgeous petals that are a color mixture of coral and orange. It is also the winner of 12 international awards. The colorful flowers bloom in the late spring to early summer and grows 3.5 to 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide.
- Amerihybrid Ruffled Coral Salmon Tuberous Begonia
This begonia boasts of large, semi-ruffled flowers up to 5-9 inches across that bloom from midsummer until frost. These coral color pleated petals pop against dark green foliage. This plant is heat tolerant and does best in well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil. It is deer and rabbit resistant and grows 14-20 inches tall and 12-16 inches wide.
- Wizard Coral Sunrise Coleus
For those wanting some coral-colored foliage, this coleus features a pink center and green edging. It has an upright habit that works well in containers or landscape features. Its color starts salmon-pink in cooler conditions and can mature to lighter pink when warmer. It grows 12-14 inches tall and 10-12 inches wide.
- Sombrero Hot Coral Coneflower
A drought-tolerant perennial that can bring the heat to a border, this coneflower with beautiful coral color does well in sunny gardens. It blooms from late spring through the summer and does well in cutting gardens. These colorful flowers also attract butterflies and are deer resistant. It grows 24-26 inches tall and 16-22 inches wide.
- Apricot Emperor Tulip
An early-blooming tulip with coral-apricot petals, these colorful flowers features a strong stem that can withstand both the wind and the rain. These fragrant, color rich tulips can be used for edging or in containers. They grow up to 16 inches tall and 6-9 inches wide.
- Horizon Coral Spice Geranium
This plant is a perennial that provides a terrific pop of color with rounded bright coral flowers; it will bloom from late spring until the first frost. It can attract hummingbirds and is deer and rabbit resistant. It is ideal for growing in baskets, beds or containers and grows 12-16 inches tall and 12 inches wide.
